Welcome

USCC Chaplain Academy

USCC offers opportunities for continued education through an array of programs, from Chaplain Volunteers’ Certification, to expanded chaplains’ training in professional settings, such as hospitals, police and fire departments, businesses, and other clinical fields.

The purpose of the USCC Academy is to prepare chaplains for their essential tasks while on duty. In order to arm chaplains for the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges of dealing with disaster and trauma, extensive training is made a prerequisite for their role.

Chaplains also develop their own emotional and spiritual insight, enabling them to deliver well-informed care and counseling to others. Additionally, they learn to improve their capacity to separate the personal from the professional, preventing their private concerns from impeding their chaplaincy service.

The USCC Academy provides training for the following ranks:

Associate Chaplain Certification

In order to maintain the highest standard of excellence, all new USCC Chaplains need to complete the Associate Chaplain curriculum. This is a 12-week program which includes two courses with FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and two courses of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), culminating with a final exam. First Responders Chaplain- Special Unit

This program includes the certification curriculum for Associate Chaplains mentioned above. It also contains two courses of Psychological First Aid (PFA).

Clinical Pastoral Education

Chaplains who require specialized knowledge to guide them in professional settings such as healthcare providers (hospitals, hospice centers, psychiatric wards), prisons or correction agencies, the military, police and fire departments, business, or other clinical field settings can take a course in CPE. Clinical Pastoral Education is essentially field experience. Under the tutelage of an accredited school, the training and internship lasts for 400 hours (a unit). Through action-reflection instructional methods and supervised practice in real-world settings, CPE students learn to provide pastoral services to persons in crisis. If you need more information on this CPE, you can request more information here.

Background check

In accordance with USCC policy for all chaplains, as well as to facilitate deployment alongside local, state, or federal government agencies, all USCC chaplain candidates must have a completed and approved background check by the USCC.
